More About Our Speakers:
Llyod Matthew Tan is the author of DAILY NONYA DISHES and MORE DAILY NONYA DISHES, cookbooks documenting the daily dishes in a Peranakan home. He grew up enjoying sedap Nonya food cooked by his late parents, and was motivated to learn to cook in 2001 when his father passed away. Realising that a recipe can only continue to live on if it is cooked and enjoyed, he has started conducting cooking workshops and doing private dining. Presently, he runs the Perot Rumah Facebook group and shares his cooking adventures on @dailynonyadishes.
Celebrity chef, cookbook author, food columnist, cooking instructor and entrepreneur, Devagi Sanmugam is one of Singapore's most dynamic and talented food personalities. Starting as a cooking instructor more than 20 years ago, Devagi has since written and co-authored 22 cookbooks and her latest book, I AM A RICE COOKER! came in third place as World’s Best in the cooking schools’ category in the Gourmand World Cookbook Award 2017! She continues to innovate, being constantly involved in developing and testing original recipes for food companies, restaurants and magazines. Widely known as the Spice Queen of Singapore, Devagi has also hosted a number of television cooking shows for local and foreign media.
Shameen Akbar only discovered the joy in cooking during the covid lockdown. She’s currently trying to recreate the lost recipes of her grandmother’s who has forgotten how to cook.
By day, Shameen is a project manager in the Finance industry. In her attempt to achieve work/life balance, she volunteers her time as a Board Chairman for Teater Ekamatra, a non-profit theatre company with a focus on championing minority voices.
Toffa Abdul Wahed enjoys reading and listening to stories about food. She dreams of setting up a book club discussing cookbooks published between the late 1800s and the 1980s. She posts her musings about cookbooks, home-cooking, family stories, and Geylang Serai on Instagram @thelemongrasspress.
